Defending an Employment Tribunal Claim
An employee may start an Employment Tribunal claim for a number of reasons. These include claims for:
- Unfair dismissal
- Whistleblowing
- Discrimination
- Issues over redundancy
- Breach of the contract of employment (including wrongful dismissal claims and claims over pay)
There are several stages to any employment claim, and the majority do not end in a full Employment Tribunal hearing. Instead resolution is often brought about by a Settlement Agreement made between the parties, or through other forms of dispute resolution, such as mediation.
One key stage is ACAS Early Conciliation. If both parties agree to participate in this process, it offers an opportunity to resolve a claim at an early stage.
