Katherine Swinn

Katherine began practising law in 2008 and qualified as a Solicitor in 2010 after training with a firm in Ripon with a strong focus on civil litigation.

She joined Truth Legal in December 2018 as a Consultant Solicitor, became a Senior Associate Solicitor in November 2020, and was appointed Head of General Litigation in June 2023.

Katherine specialises in professional negligence and civil litigation matters. Throughout her career she has advised clients in a wide range of disputes, from debt recovery and contractual disagreements to court proceedings and professional negligence claims. Since joining Truth Legal, she has developed particular expertise in professional negligence claims against solicitors, surveyors and trade unions, helping clients recover compensation when professional advisers have fallen below the standards expected of them. She is also a member of the Professional Negligence Lawyers Association (PNLA).

Alongside her litigation practice, Katherine advises on Equality Act 2010 claims and supports clients with a range of employment law matters, including Settlement Agreements and Employment Tribunal cases. Clients value her practical approach, attention to detail and determination to get to the heart of a problem.

One case Katherine is particularly proud of involved a professional negligence claim against a surveyor who failed to identify significant defects during a pre-purchase property survey. By obtaining and scrutinising the surveyor’s inspection notes, Katherine demonstrated that warning signs had been overlooked and that appropriate investigations had not been carried out. She secured compensation of more than £33,000 for her client, covering the cost of essential repairs and replacement windows. Outside of work, Katherine is passionate about football. She has played for a local women’s team for more than 30 years and has served as the club’s Secretary for over 20 years. She is also a dedicated Harrogate Town supporter and season ticket holder, attending every home match and as many away fixtures as possible. When she is not watching football, Katherine enjoys reading, relaxing and spending time with friends.
